A recent New York Times article noted how Kansans overwhelmingly supported Donald Trump in the presidential election while also voting out many conservative state lawmakers. It explained this seeming dichotomy by saying that voters showed “far more nuance when it came to their state.” Kansans were frustrated with perpetual state budget shortfalls, raids on the highway fund, rollbacks to social services and perceived threats to public schools, the article said.
