Opinion Line (March 4)

After paying $2,000 for a high-definition flat-screen television, why should I have to put up with again-and-again notifications of some church’s cancellation of services at the bottom of the screen?

I can’t believe all the churches canceling Sunday service because of a little snow. Would Jesus have canceled the Sermon on the Mount because of a little snow? I don’t think so.

If you are a law enforcement officer who appears on “Cops” or on any roadway with your seat belt unfastened, what kind of model are you for the rest of us who are breaking the law when we do that?

I pay my taxes and homeowners’ dues. Never been sued, arrested or jailed. No tax mix-ups. No warrants. No bankruptcies or foreclosures. And I believe bankruptcy is a sign of poor money management. Conclusion: I would never make a good local political candidate.

The biggest threat to the U.S. is not ISIS. It’s a nuclear Iran. The United States should not give an inch that would allow Iran to have a nuclear bomb. If we let the Iranians have a nuclear bomb, they could kill millions of us.

The Obama administration is playing dueling hashtags with ISIS. The terrorists behead Christians and other Muslims, and we poke them in the eye on their Twitter accounts. This is Obama getting really tough.

Banning teachers and relatives from school boards is as ridiculous as banning business owners from running for public office. Although we might be better off with fewer business owners in government serving their own interests rather than public interests.

If they pass the law saying teachers and their relatives can’t run for school board, how about a new law that says everyone who runs for the Legislature or statewide office must take and pass a lie-detector test? Seriously.

Thanks to Gov. Sam Brownback, I am advising my grandchildren to move away from Kansas as soon as possible.

That’s strange – the simpleminded Brownback haters claim that no company would move to the state, expand or thrive, and yet another one, this time Rubbermaid in Winfield, is going to spend $27 million on an expansion and add 320 jobs.

After reading about Kyle Devon Begin’s death and “EMS 298” (Feb. 21 Eagle), I wonder if any of us should ever again complain about anything going wrong in our lives.

Thank you, Travis Heying, for the full-page photo of coach Gregg Marshall hugging Tekele Cotton (March 1 Sports). Sports should not be about the glory but about caring, because what matters is doing your best.
