Opinion Line (March 1)

So Gov. Sam Brownback thinks the president has moved too far to the left? I think the governor has moved too far to the right to see the middle.

Now that the proof is in the pudding regarding the bogus trickle-down or supply-side economic theory, can we get back the $70,000 we paid Arthur Laffer? We could use it now.

Almost daily someone is criticizing Gov. Sam Brownback for the estimated $648 million shortfall in next year’s budget. Why aren’t any of those same people criticizing President Obama for the $7.5 trillion racked up so far during his presidency? Do the math. It is 11,618 times as large.

It is going to take decades to repair the damage being done to Kansas by Sam Brownback and his Legislature.

So now the brain trust in Topeka wants grocery stores to sell liquor and convenience stores to sell full-strength beer. Those types of stores have a lot of underage traffic. I see big problems coming. I’m old enough to remember when elected officials tried to fix problems, not create new ones.

I hope you realize that when the grocery stores start selling liquor, the profits will leave the state. Please do what is best for Kansas, not the big money interests.

“Huck Finn” hasn’t been banned by conservatives but rather by PC control freaks who wouldn’t hesitate to censor an American classic that contained the N-word but scream about banning a poster that equated anal sex with holding hands.

What hypocrisy – on the one hand Kansas legislators rely on the Constitution to enable untrained people to carry concealed weapons, while ignoring parts of the same document to limit the expression of speech or ideas that do not agree with their narrow view of the world.

Harper Lee wrote in “To Kill a Mockingbird”: “Havin’ a gun around’s an invitation to somebody to shoot you.” Is our self-control going to be able to handle all these public weapons?

We need to get guns off the streets, not put more on the streets. Other countries don’t have a problem with gun control, but then they don’t have the NRA.

The top priority should be getting illegal guns off the street.

The people pushing “no license for conceal and carry” are not thinking big enough. Why not get rid of requiring a license to have a dog or to remodel a house? Heck, do away with needing a license to drive.

Pretty soon my coat will have a permitless handgun in one pocket and legal marijuana in the other. How does that sound, Wichita?

Our streets are a disgrace. Any city run by Democrats will flop. We will end up like Detroit. Stop wasteful spending and fix our streets.

The ultimate arrogance is believing that human beings can affect the climate of an entire planet in one century.

I hope the next article I read about BTK, aka Dennis Rader, is his obituary.
