Opinion Line Extra (Feb. 27)

What a waste – we spent 10 disastrous years in Iraq to make it a safe place to live, and now terrorists are in the villages beheading and burning up citizens. We really accomplished something, didn’t we?

Secretary of State John Kerry says we’re safer now than the past century. Yeah, I can remember listening to bubble-gum rock in the ’60s being afraid for my life of the terrorists roaming the street. Not. Kerry is another Obama fool.

ISIS only exists because of the Internet and the removal of Saddam Hussein. We should blame Bush for killing Saddam and Al Gore for inventing the Internet.

Obama’s snub of Benjamin Netanyahu should have an impact on middle-of-the-road Jews. This is not the first time our president has given Netanyahu the cold shoulder. American Jewish voters must realize that the Democratic Party is not their friend and not the friend of Israel.

Jeb Bush says he’s his own man. I have several questions. No. 1: Based on the intelligence available, would you have attacked Iraq?

Not everyone considers Chris Kyle an American hero or considers the “American Sniper” movie to be anything other than a glorification of assault rifles and a Clint Eastwood attempt to wrap himself in the American flag for profit.

I hear Social Security is going to run out of money, but I never seem to hear that food stamps and welfare will run out of money.

The next lie to the middle class: “If you like your retirement, you can keep it. Period.”

You can fund your own retirement with 15.3 percent of your wages going into a personal, tax-free IRA account over a 30- to 40-year career. It takes willpower and maybe just a little self-denial along the way.

If Bill Self is so worried about the age-old tradition of “court storming” after upset wins, perhaps he should quit losing to mediocre teams. Gregg Marshall does not have to worry about those scenarios.

The letter from the K-State president to the student body was about as anemic as could be. It reminded me of a parent telling a child not to do something with no punishment involved. So much for concern about the court swarming.

KU fans are making a big deal out of K-State fans rushing the court. Everyone knows if KU had been lucky enough to beat K-State in football, every KU fan would have rushed the field without thought to anyone else. This isn’t the first time KU fans have pouted.

Court storming says, “We know we didn’t deserve to win.” After a great and well-deserved victory, people should respond the way Vince Lombardi said his football players should respond: “When you get to the end zone, act like you’ve been there before.”
