Opinion Line Extra (Feb. 26)

School boards across Kansas could really put the governor and the Legislature on the hot seat by making all the financial cuts in sports. I’m not talking soccer, tennis or basketball; I’m talking the outrageously expensive football programs.

Kansans are in for a world of hurt. This didn’t have to happen. It was all totally preventable. Force Gov. Sam Brownback to change his mind (which you can’t and which he won’t). Watch the state go down the toilet. Recall him, beginning now.

You’ve got to love delusional Republicans. They hold overwhelming majorities in both the Kansas House and Senate, and they passed the disastrous 2012 tax bill. Then the Republican governor signed it. So whom does Sen. Les Donovan blame for this mess? The Democrats.

Duane Goossen made some good points (Feb. 22 Opinion). However, he started with the flawed premise that the state budget issue is due to lack of revenue. It is time to examine the spending side. A simple comparison of state spending to rate of growth would be a good start.

“CPA Sam Williams” is getting his political career off to a bad start. It is usually after the election that we find out the misleading information.

Obama needs to realize he can’t twitter our world into peace.

Have you noticed that during this extended cold spell, no one is talking about “global warming”? The East Coast is the coldest it has been in more than 60 years. Now they call it “climate change.” Will “global warming” return this July during a hot spell?

It won’t be long until we start hearing about how “global cooling” is caused by man and we must act now.

My 20-year-old pen ran out of ink. It never happened before and it’s due to warmer temperatures due to climate change due to cars. Please stop driving.

It’s a great Eagle day when you publish a Davis Merritt column. It’s an abominable Eagle day when you run Cal Thomas or Charles Krauthammer. The latter is particularly absurd.

I have to agree with the complaint the other day about daylight saving time. If God had wanted us on daylight saving time, he would have put us on daylight saving time.

I was amazed at the number of churches that canceled Sunday’s services when we had less than an inch of snow on the ground. That tells me those churches were not that eager to hold services in the first place.

I am sincerely grateful to be living in a small town where the local newspaper headline screams, “Joyland’s Louie the Clown found after missing for years” (Feb. 20 Eagle).

How many taxpayer dollars were used to find Louie the Clown?
