Opinion Line (Feb. 18)

The decline in strength of marriages and families happened over the same time frame as the decline in strength of unions and good-paying jobs. Coincidence? I think not.


Even though I don’t agree with most socialist ideas, some social programs are needed and very beneficial to society. Without Social Security, we would have millions of senior and disabled citizens who could not survive. Individual retirement savings will only last a person so long.


As long as conservatives think that the rich need more tax breaks, it’s OK to cut funding to education, and it’s best if employers pay employees as little as possible, we will need Obamacare, food stamps and a host of other government programs.


It figures – Chicago can’t even field a Little League baseball team without cheating.


U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom for governor. He knows what he’s talking about.


I see I’m not the only one who feels as if fewer and fewer Kansas citizens are welcome here. I’m in my 70s, and never before have I felt as if diversity and nonpartisan thought are proudly unwelcome here. And the message is being received nationwide.


In four years the governor’s term in office will be permanently over. Then, private citizen Sam Brownback will simply walk away and leave the ridiculous mess he has created for others to clean up.


During the next two years, President Obama will spend countless hours working on ways to make it difficult for his successor, regardless of party affiliation.


Let’s stop Obama’s regulatory attack on the Internet. Call your congressman. The 332-page plan sounds dictatorlike.


If Middle Eastern terrorists are not representative of the Muslim faith, why did we give Osama bin Laden a proper Muslim burial at sea and why do we provide Qurans and prayer rugs to inmates at Guantanamo Bay?


I always wanted to believe, but today I am certain: Big Foot (Sasquatch) is alive and running loose west of Clearwater.


Question: Is there anyone living in Butler County whose preferred mode of transportation is not a 4x4?


Thirty years ago my buddy and I talked about wine, women and song. Now it is whine, “Where did the women go?” and what medications are working.


Enough with the leggings. Some women look like they forgot their pants.
