Wichita native Robert Gates feels Trump’s ire

Donald Trump went into attack mode last weekend after former Secretary of Defense and Wichita native Robert Gates said he was “unqualified and unfit to be commander-in-chief.” In a commentary in the Wall Street Journal, Gates raised concerns about both Trump and Hillary Clinton. But he was most critical of Trump, who he said was “stubbornly uninformed about the world and how to lead our country and government, and temperamentally unsuited to lead our men and women in uniform.” Trump responded by calling Gates “dopey,” “a mess” and a “nasty guy” who “probably has a problem that we don’t know about.” After serving in the administrations of four U.S. presidents, Gates was president of Texas A&M University and president of the Boy Scouts of America. – Phillip Brownlee
