Opinion Line Extra (Feb. 16)

The Oklahoma attorney general issued an opinion that work messages sent by public officials on their private electronic devices, such as cellphones, BlackBerrys and laptops, are public records. Why should it be different in Kansas?

Perhaps if we lose all those jobs at downsized Fort Riley, our non-listening governor and state Legislature will understand even the Army thinks Kansas is a lost cause and no longer a place troops want to be.

Our state government laments the wasteful use of education dollars on a $47,000 piano, yet it raises no concern over the cost to outfit, equip and transport sports teams.

To have a gun or not to have one – it’s just a matter of luck. Do you tempt fate by exchanging fire? Or hope that if you cooperate the other person doesn’t shoot you?

If high school seniors are required to study the Second Amendment, they’ll discover that it says it is for the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

If you think your God and your religion should be part of the government, move to the Middle East where that lifestyle is followed. The U.S. is a republic of all the people by all the people.
