Opinion Line (Feb. 14)

Sen. Forrest Knox’s proposal for elite foster care homes is another example of the older-white-man fantasy about the 1950s America that never really existed. “Leave It to Beaver” homes never existed anywhere but on TV and in the minds of those who can’t deal with reality.

According to the rules as proposed by Knox, Dennis Rader would probably be a model foster parent. Churchgoer, volunteer, family man.

I predict the low turnout for this spring’s local elections will be proof that these elections need to be moved and combined with the state and national elections.

Democrats are easily confused. Road construction, police, the FDA, and the military benefit all of us and are proper governmental functions. However, Social Security, Obamacare and welfare directly benefit the individual and thus represent socialism.

If you smoke or drink, if you have school-age children or grandchildren, if you or your loved ones depend on Medicare or Medicaid, if you or your loved ones use the state highway system – and you voted for Sam Brownback, you have only yourself to blame.

The way it is going, I am waiting for Kansas’ leaders to just be done with it and allow only Bible-believing tea party conservatives to live and vote in or even visit this state. Everyone else will have to leave. Nonconservatives will be turned away at the border.

The Eagle owes Brownback a debt of gratitude. Without him, it would not have anything to put in the paper.

Whatever happened to that governor who went around the state seeking re-election spouting his support for education? Sadly, he has stabbed education in the back. Don’t even consider allowing a change in the selection of Supreme Court justices.

One for the record book – a liberal tells the truth. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg tells the truth that she was “not 100 percent sober” at the State of the Union address. The rest of us wanted to be not sober in order to listen to the golfer in chief.

The same old senators are beating the war drums again. They seem to think we are the policemen of the world. Haven’t they killed and maimed enough of our soldiers yet? They seem to think there is no end to our resources.

Obama will only consider ground troops against ISIS as a last-ditch effort to find Brian Williams.

ISIS is now reported to be beheading its own members who smoke cigarettes. The U.S. Air Force should make massive air drops of cigarettes into ISIS strongholds.
