Letters on Trump’s medal, Huelskamp’s service

Trump’s medal

I’ll say up front that I am a Democrat who supports Hillary Clinton. I do not get angry at political claims often, but Donald Trump has gotten my goat.

I am a veteran (U.S. Army and Army Reserves). The Purple Heart is awarded for “in harm’s way” or battle-zone injuries received in defense of the United States. It is a military service medal, not a civilian medal.

Recently, after a supporter gave him a Purple Heart, Trump said, “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart.”

This is where I became enraged. Trump received draft deferments five times. If you cannot receive the Purple Heart without military service, how can he claim to have always wanted one, when he actively avoided military service?

Actions always override words. And it seems, once again, that Trump has scrambled the two to suit his effort.

Faithful service

I was with Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler/Hutchinson, when he joined youths bused in from a Catholic school to pray in front of Wichita’s abortion mill. He practices what he preaches, and he and his wife have four adopted children.

I have seen few pastors or politicians at the abortion mill; Huelskamp has been there more than that one time. He dared to oppose former House Speaker John Boehner, and he paid for it by having the wrath, fury and money of the Washington cartel thrown at him this election. I thank Huelskamp for his faithful service.
