Letters on Trump’s ugliness, Democratic convention, Hillary movie
Trump showing his authentic ugly self
In his attack on a Gold Star couple, Donald Trump continues to show his authentic self, and it is not pretty to behold.
Because he seeks to dominate, Trump reaches for the Male Dominance Card in his accusations, demeaning the grief of a couple struggling with their son’s death and trying to continue the patriotic meaning that his life contained. In his lack of empathy, Trump did not see that it was anguish, not suppression, that silenced a mother’s voice, or that a father could speak his heart without plagiarizing the experience of someone else.
Trump’s unconstitutional responses of selecting particular religions, ethnicities and races for vilification support the Khans’ accusations and concerns.
Trump has indicated that he is no longer going to be “Mr. Nice Guy.” But there never was a nice guy to be found.
I am reminded of an Irish Spring commercial in which someone cut into a bar of the green soap and all you saw was more green soap. When you drill down on Trump, it is not pretty and there is just more foul Trump. Because he has soiled so much and so many, after truly experiencing him, you want to take a shower to feel clean again.
Let us wash him from our national political life this November, forever.

What about DNC?
To those who express outrage over the Republican National Convention: Take a hard look at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. It started with a bang, when DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned because of her illicit favoritism of Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. Then came Bill Clinton’s sappy speech, “In the spring of 1971, I met a girl.” He neglected to mention the dozens he has “met” since then.
The Black Lives Matter mothers seemed to forget that most of their children were killed while Barack Obama occupied the White House. Hollywood A-listers were abundant, as they certainly represent a valid cross section of America. Middle-class workers have watched their inflation-adjusted income drop by 35 percent since 2003. The millennials should be proud that about a third of them still live at home in Mommy’s basement. And senior citizens who saved money all their lives are now rewarded with a 0.5 percent prime interest rate to generate income during their golden years.
No wonder the real story of the DNC was the multiple protests being held outside.

Shame on Trump
I am a registered Democrat living in Kansas, a Republican state. I have voted for Republicans in the past, and will probably do so again in the future. I always voted for the candidate I think will do the best job. After watching the Republican and Democratic conventions, I have come to realize that the Republicans have made a horrendous mistake in their nomination.
I know that Kansas is more than likely to vote Republican in the upcoming presidential election. But shame on you if you vote for a man who has insulted everyone from women, minorities and the disabled to wartime heroes (Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.) and veterans who paid the ultimate price to help keep all of us free and safe. Name-calling is such a childish thing to do when you don’t have the answers or a better idea.
Shame on Trump, and shame on the state of Kansas if we allow this man to become our leader. Shame on us.

Must-see movie
To see what the United States’ future will be like if Hillary Clinton is elected president, every person who loves America should definitely go to the movie “Hillary’s America” as soon as possible, while it is still showing. It is a “must-see.”

In eyes of God
In regard to “Christian nation?” (July 30 Letters to the Editor), there’s a quote attributed to St. Francis of Assisi that reaffirms this letter: “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God and nothing else.”
