Letters on abortion, Huelskamp
Court advanced culture of death
On June 12, 49 people were gunned down in an Orlando nightclub and Americans tried to decide whom or what to blame.
Just two weeks later, on June 27, the U.S. Supreme Court advanced the culture of death (where moral crimes such as abortion are viewed as an individual right) by saying that states couldn’t regulate the abortion industry to the same standard as many other medical clinics.
The sad thing, there is no right to abortion. Not in the Constitution. Not in the Bible. It’s only a right made up by activist, liberal judges.
Mother Teresa connected the dots for us when she said: “We must not be surprised when we hear of murders, of killings, of wars, of hatred. If a mother can kill her own child, what is left but for us to kill each other?”
Elections matter. Four of the five who voted in majority were appointed by pro-abortion liberal presidents. A vote for Hillary Clinton means more of the same. Donald Trump has promised to give us conservative justices who will honor the Constitution and respect all of our rights, including the God-given right to life. I think that’s change that will make America great again.

Abortions are safe
Based on the premise of “Safe care a burden?” (July 1 Letters to the Editor), women’s reproductive health care is only safe in a full hospital situation. But the evidence doesn’t support that idea. In fact, medical abortion is safer than the use of penicillin, which has been linked to one death in 50,000 courses of the medication. Should we stop using this wonder drug?
Forcing reproductive health centers to have complete surgical wards and admitting privileges results in higher costs and limited access to the procedure. Patients can always be admitted to a hospital. The truth is that medical abortion is safer than a full-term delivery. Fewer than one woman in 100,000 has a medical issue after an abortion. Full-term delivery has a mortality rate of 18.5 per 100,000, equaling 800 women in 2013, according to the World Health Organization database.
In places where abortion is illegal or restricted, 19 million unsafe abortions occur per year, resulting in 68,000 deaths. For each of those deaths, 30 more suffer pain and unnecessary disability. That means 1 in 9 suffers undue permanent complications – all because some people want to make medical decisions that force their moral and religious perspectives on the lives of others.

Despicable ads
I’m sorry that my local television stations carry the despicable campaign commercials of Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler/Hutchinson. I wish he could tell voters in his district about what he plans to introduce in his next term if re-elected.
Huelskamp has been shamed by many in the Republican leadership. OK, he’s a rebel. If I were a resident of the 1st Congressional District, I would be sure to vote for Roger Marshall (who also should remove his negative advertising) or another candidate.
Residents in the 1st District do not need to put up with this guy.
