Letters on Trump, Towel Day

Trump logical reaction to PC world, Obama

Columnist Davis Merritt hyperventilated about how horrible Donald Trump would be as president (May 24 Opinion). Well, gee, he might be. But two-thirds of folks in the country think we’re more or less going down the tubes.

Politically correct media (like Merritt and columnist Leonard Pitts Jr.), government and university elites have for a long time been telling us how we should think, what to eat, drink, etc. People are tired of it. They see a president apologize to the world for America and take steps to make us more average. Many believe that without a strong, dominant America, the world’s bad boys become more active and things destabilize globally – kind of like they have been lately.

Trump is a logical reaction to our PC world and a weak president like Obama.

Many believe Hillary Clinton would continue Obama policies. Plus, she has a few other peccadilloes that bother people. And why worry about what Trump says now? Obama campaigned about uniting us all and then did a 180, saying and doing things to divide us based on race, gender and income.

Some of the things Trump has said certainly concern me. Things Clinton has done concern me. The fact that Bernie Sanders has traction concerns me. Whoever gets elected, it’s important to realize that the United States is a large ship that doesn’t turn quickly. Let’s just hope it isn’t the Titanic.

Towel Day politics

May 25 was Towel Day. In celebrating this holiday and pondering the political issues and shenanigans of politicians and voters during this election cycle, I have been reminded of one of Douglas Adams’ astute observations: “In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
