Letters on moving back to Kansas, Pompeo bullying, rise of GOP extremists
Family may not move back to Wichita
My daughter and her husband have been looking forward to moving back to Wichita. She has two boys (my grandsons) and a girl due soon. She is a veterinarian and her husband is a hospital administrator. Kansas has always valued education and made it a budgetary priority.
My wife and I have so been looking forward to being closer to our grandkids. But of late they are cooling on moving back to Wichita, because Kansas is doing some scary things to education.
It’s hard for me to argue with that. But I so want to watch my grandkids grow up.

Pompeo bullying
The Peace and Social Justice Center is disappointed but not surprised at the bullying attack that Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, made on the Islamic Society of Wichita (March 26 Eagle). This attack on a vulnerable Wichita institution should be called out for what it was – a cheap attempt to capitalize on people’s fears of terrorism.
Because the Islamic Society is a peaceful, welcoming local institution, Pompeo’s attack did nothing to make Wichita safe or peaceful. He did the opposite, instead encouraging discrimination and armed threats toward Muslim members of the Wichita community.

Co-chairwoman, Peace and Social Justice Center
Rise of extremists
If Republicans are still wondering how Donald Trump became the front-runner in the GOP presidential campaign, one need look no further than the way Republicans are treating Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan. A sane, thoughtful and moderate politician, he is being ostracized by the radical extremist wing of the party (March 26 Eagle).
As these moderates, who actually want to improve our government and make it work for the people, are run out of the party, extremists take over. Hence, the rise of Trump.
