Letters on climate change ‘hoax,’ attacks on Muslims, police chief
Lucky Thomas exposed climate change ‘hoax’
Once again, columnist Cal Thomas has told us the truth (“Belief in climate change like faith in Santa,” Dec. 16 Opinion). We are so lucky to have him. He is, of course, far more expert than any group of scientists in history and is fully qualified to tell us why we should not believe in the “hoax” of climate change.
Of course he does not mention the myriad climate change predictions that are already coming true: South Florida is going to be uninhabitable within a few decades. Just ask the people in Miami who have water coming up underneath their homes. This is due to an expanding ocean, which comes from the water temperature increasing and the melting of vast glaciers.
It is apparent since the Paris accords were signed in the past few days that the only body of people worldwide who are denying the scientific reality of climate change reside in the American Republican Party. These climate deniers are a disgrace to our country, to science and, most importantly, to the future we must secure if our children and grandchildren are to live on a decent planet. The vast majority of climate denial is being funded by fossil-fuel interests and other businesses that stand to profit immeasurably by keeping the status quo.
Our country used to lead on such difficult technological problems. Now we get in the way.

Home of the afraid
Have you been watching the news? Some Americans are now attacking Muslims in crowds and getting applauded for it.
We are afraid of them, so we attack them. That is no solution.
In these moments we turn to people we don’t fully understand, and then we lose what makes us Americans.
If we are not careful, we will go from “land of the free and home of the brave” to “land of the slave and home of the afraid.”
Kyle Schultz, Wichita
Why not Mosley?
Why was interim Wichita Police Chief Nelson Mosley not considered for the job? I have heard no complaints, and he appears to be doing the job.
I’m sure the two finalists from out of state are well-qualified – including Gordon Ramsay, who reportedly is being offered the job. But why is the grass always greener across the road? Is it not better for morale to promote from within?
