Letters on no women at debate, Roberts, Royals
Why no women?
The Eagle, KSN, Channel 3, and two media from Topeka sponsored a U.S. Senate candidate debate last week. The sponsors are to be congratulated. It was well-run.
However, I was disappointed that not a woman was in view. Women represent more than half our population and have been voting since 1920. We should have seen a woman on that panel. We all can think of qualified and articulate women who should have had a chair at the table.

Bored with job?
I think that after more than 40 years in Washington. D.C., Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., has grown bored with his job. How else can you explain his attending Senate Agriculture Committee meetings a scant 33 percent of the time over 15 years (Oct. 15 Now Consider This)?
Of course, that’s not what he is being paid to do. We’re paying him to go to meetings, learn about issues and use his knowledge to vote in the best interest of Kansas and the nation.
Is that not the whole point of a representative democracy?

Royal distraction
I firmly resolve to relax and lighten up, at least for a while. I will not worry about Ebola. I will not think about politics or ISIS. I will face each new day with serenity. My living room will turn into a palace of fortitude. My easy chair will be as a throne, festooned with snacks and beer.
Millions of people in Kansas, America and around the globe will celebrate with me for a while. Each day will be game day while the Kansas City Royals are in the World Series.
