Letters on Roberts-Orman debate, Pompeo

After debate, Roberts should be worried

I watched the debate Wednesday between Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and independent Greg Orman. If Roberts wasn’t worried about losing his Senate seat before that debate, he sure ought to be worrying now.

Roberts looked uncomfortable, nervous and out of touch. Often he didn’t answer the questions that were posed to him. He frequently railed against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and President Obama. He often touted those individuals and groups that support his re-election bid, yet he never offered any solutions of his own for the problems the country is facing.

Orman handled himself well, looked confident and was articulate, but I’m still not sure he cleared up my concerns as to whether he’s the flaming liberal in disguise Roberts says he is. If I’m still unsure on Election Day, I may write in Milton Wolf’s name as my choice for the office.

Roberts is the best

The issues being used by Sen. Pat Roberts’ opponent are only designed to hide his extreme liberal views. These views are not what most Kansans hold as important to the well-being of the people of our state and our country.

The “residence issue” is just plain silly. Roberts is as Kansan as they come, and he has shown great leadership on behalf of our state for a long time. I know that he will continue to represent the conservative values of the people of Kansas.

I’ve known Roberts for many, many years as a friend, a fellow K-Stater and a fraternity brother. He is by far the best choice in the upcoming election to represent the people of Kansas in the U.S. Senate.

A man of honor

As a former teacher, I know that successful children have many caring adults in their lives. I see this with my own grandchildren.

My grandson recently started his first postcollege, professional job. One of the caring adults in his life for many years is the father of his close friend. This man served as a job reference and celebrated along with us when my grandson landed this important first job. He took my grandson on family trips and to Shocker basketball games – not to mention to movies and meals.

This Christian man of character and integrity who has genuinely cared about my grandson is our current congressman, Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita. I have watched this relationship over the years with joy and admiration. Pompeo is a man of depth and honor.

I encourage you to join me in voting for Mike Pompeo on Nov. 4.
