Letters to the Editor: New Mexico gun grab, Jan. 6 version 2.0, Goter got it right
Leave it to Goter
Leave it to Dale Goter to reveal the dirty underwear beneath the glossy dressing of providing more homes for the rich, conveniently near Sim Park for recreation (Eagle Sept. 12, “$725,000 handout to developers is just another sweetheart deal”).
In the course of doing so, Mr. Goter highlights the average and unprepared “public servants” who benefit.
Anti-gun dictatorship
Once again, President Joe Biden and the control-left, most especially the governor of New Mexico, are all clamoring for more of their discriminatory gun control to “end gun violence.”
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is especially evil with her totally unconstitutional dictatorial edict suspending all government-issued permission slips for both open carry and concealed carry.
Since Control-Left Democrats feel that guns are the cause of gun violence, instead of the person perpetrating the evil, then we should also start crediting other “things” with accomplishments as well.
If you’re an athlete, say Patrick Mahomes for instance, it’s not your athletic ability, but is instead the football, pads and cleats that are the cause of your success.
If your child is a musician or artist, it’s not their talent that begets their success, it’s the instrument, paint brush or pencil.
I wonder if the Media will support the 2nd Amendment nationwide against Biden and Grisham, like they clamored for support of the 1st Amendment in Marion, Kansas.
Or are they only “pro-constitutional rights” when it comes to freedom of the press?
Jan. 6, but worse
In Donald Trump’s first impeachment, Republicans clamored that the American people should decide his fate in 2020, not the Congress, and when Sen. Mitch McConnell refused to conduct a real trial as he promised he would do, Trump was set free and looked what happened.
If Trump somehow becomes the GOP nominee for 2024, we all know what will happen should he lose a second time to President Biden, as he likely will. He will again claim that the election was stolen from him and right-wingers will make demands that he be seated instead of the current president.
If Jan. 6 created a constitutional crisis, we may not have seen anything yet.
America cannot afford to listen any longer to the current crop of Republicans, whether they be national or even on the local level. This is a party that has proven over and over that they will say or do anything to either get into office or stay in office.
And like Trump, fair play and the American way is not in their vocabulary.
Disabled veterans, underpaid since 1918
Our disabled veterans are grossly undercompensated.
This travesty of justice is causing enlistments to dry up.
In Fiscal Year 2023, a totally disabled veteran with no dependents is compensated at the ridiculous rate of $43,463.40 dollars annually.
The National Average Wage Index for 2021 was $60,575.07 a year and the median income for 2021 was $70,784.
The per capita Gross Domestic Product in 2021 was $69,288, among the highest in the world.
Veterans have been asking various administrations and congresses for fair compensation since the end of World War I in November 1918. That was 104 years ago.
In my opinion, the basic reason for their gross undercompensation situation is because they are only compensated for projected loss of wages due to their disabilities.
They are not compensated for their low quality of life, which is the norm now in personal injury cases in court.
This is done to keep taxation low for the wealthy elites.
So this means that the people who had their assets and overseas business interests protected the most by our now-broken former troops pay essentially nothing to support them in their brokenness.
Congress must correct this now!
