Pronoun nonsense

Interesting to see an article about pronoun use in schools after recently running into my own version of what is going on with that these days.

Two of my grandkids live in Leawood, Ill., a suburb just north of Chicago.

A few weeks ago, while visiting my daughter and her family, we sit down to dinner and I ask my 12-year-old grandson, “So how have the first few days of school been?”

He tells me just fine, my video went well.

I said what video?

He says, I had to get up in the front of the class and say “Hi, my name is and my pronouns are he and him.”

As my eyebrows went up, my daughter gave me the “we’ll talk about it later” look and we did.

Seems everyone in the incoming sixth grade has to do it.

Though parents can opt out, it’s obvious if the student does, they’ll be ostracized — just like that teacher in Junction City who refuses to participate in this nonsense.

Is this the woke rabbit hole our kids and their teachers have to jump into now?

And for what, to placate a confused population?

Ridiculous.

Amendment yes

Commentator Joel Mathis gets it wrong in his Sept. 21 piece, “Kansas Republicans want to thwart any governor’s power. That’s an attack on democracy” regarding the impact and intent behind Kansas constitutional amendment HCR 5014, on the ballot this November.

Far from undermining the governor’s power, the amendment would restore a much-needed check-and-balance structure to our regulatory review process.

With an administrative code containing over 70,000 regulations comprised of more than 3.2 million words, Kansas is in great need of regulatory accountability.

HCR 5014 would give legislators the freedom to review and modify costly, duplicative regulations from the executive branch that impede economic growth.

States adopting similar regulatory code reforms, including Idaho, Arizona and Virginia, have seen a substantial increase in economic growth.

Should HCR 5014 be ratified, small businesses will prosper, poverty rates will decline and the effects of inflation will be reduced now and for years to come.

Kelly’s economy

As a precinct committeewoman, I have had the privilege of visiting with folks in my neighborhood lately about the issues they will be voting on come November.

The economy is a top priority for most, which bodes well for Gov. Laura Kelly.

Thanks to Kelly’s responsible management of the state budget, Kansas is experiencing record economic growth after years of mismanagement under Sam Brownback, whose failed “tax experiment” led to budget deficits, underfunded public schools, and crumbling roads and bridges.

Kelly’s leadership has brought historic investment to the state, including a deal with Panasonic to build a $4 billion battery production facility in De Soto and a $576 million grain deal with Taiwan that will directly benefit Kansas wheat farmers.

The Kelly Administration has cut property, sales, and income taxes for Kansas families. Kelly even axed the food sales tax.

Kelly has time and again delivered for Kansans, and on Election Day, we need to deliver for her.

We cannot afford Derek Schmidt and his reckless economic policies that threaten to take us back to the Brownback era.

Let’s reelect Gov. Laura Kelly and keep Kansas’ economy moving forward.
