Letters to the editor on Ukraine, gas prices, energy and Cedric Lofton
History
Ukrainians have suffered greatly over many decades from Russian aggression and genocide. Most Americans are probably unaware of the the man-made famine, called the Holodomar, perpetrated on the Ukrainians in 1932-33 by Joseph Stalin. Holodomar translates “to kill by famine”.
The collectivization process under Soviet communism made sure that the wheat crop, which Ukraine is known for, made its way to ethnic Russians in the then Soviet Union. One estimate by the United Nations is that 7-10 million ethnic Ukrainians were killed by starvation.
Some scholars believe the famine was organized by Stalin to eliminate a Ukrainian independence movement. Russian President Vladimir Putin is in the process of trying to indiscriminately eliminate by war a democratic, free and independent Ukraine. This is genocide all over again.
Fuel prices
High fuel prices boil down to calculated policy decisions made by the Biden administration to devolve our domestic fossil fuel industry based on debatable science that we are in a climate emergency.
These disastrous policies could be reversed with the stroke of a pen if only President Biden wasn’t attached at the hip to the eco-left.
This same ideological ilk told us that they “just follow the science” during the Covid-19 pandemic only to find out how specious their self-serving science was. ‘Fake science’ along with ‘fake news’ has become part of the American lexicon.
The Biden administration’s inane energy policies facilitated Vladimir Putin’s ability to invade Ukraine by increasing world dependence on Russian oil.
We’ve gone from Trump era energy dominance to groveling at the feet of other oil producing nations to hypocritically increase their oil production for our benefit.
From Biden’s first day in office the non-Chinese world has been in an energy related state of artificially induced economic chaos.
Energy sources
It has begun. Gas prices, even in Doo-Dah, are up. Not just due to Biden’s presence, but war.
It’s time for our government to open up the Keystone pipeline, lift energy restrictions and become the world’s leading source of energy. We could bankrupt Russia’s energy business and bring them to their knees faster than any of Biden’s sanctions. We could lower our energy costs and show Putin the high cost of evil.
To some extent, this is from President Reagan’s playbook. The one he used to destroy the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall. Reagan caused the United States economy to thrive and patriotism to flourish, bankrupting the European communists and ending the cold war, bring to an end, until this year, the threat to freedom.
One might say, giving free rein to energy would harm our environment. Well, we tree huggers are some of the biggest hypocrites on earth. We restrict our own energy production in the name of environmental protection, but we welcome other countries to hack their ecosystem to provide energy for us without concerns for their environment. To hell with their environmental concerns. Give us oil. Give us natural gas.
Give us peace through strength.
Cedric Lofton
A lot of attention has been put on Cedric Lofton’s treatment at the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center. In the video of him being delivered to the center there were eight police officers on hand and they released him to one person on duty. Why did not a couple of the officers stay with him to be sure he was under control? If it took that many officers to handle him, how could they leave him to one person?
Helping
In recent years the world has experienced many disasters and the US government has responded in supporting in many ways. Over the years, one individual’s response has made me realize that in some way we can also do that.
Chef Jose Andres has managed to provide nourishing meals for the victims far and wide, food and shelter being their greatest need. His latest effort is to feed the 700,000 refugees to have fled Ukraine to bordering countries. Shelter and nourishment are vital to their survival, and he is again doing his part.
