Letters on Roberts, Brownback
Can’t afford Reid as majority leader
I asked for a Milton Wolf sign for my yard. After the GOP U.S. Senate primary, I placed a sign in my yard for independent candidate Greg Orman – until Democrat Chad Taylor withdrew his name from the ballot. I’ve now decided that Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., is the only true candidate on the ballot in this race. We cannot afford another two years of Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., as the Senate majority leader. Just how many House bills are on his desk that he won’t bring forward to the rest of the Senate?
As for the gubernatorial race, what way is Democrat Paul Davis going? It must be backward, based on his campaign commercials. He is just another politician traveling backward. At least Gov. Sam Brownback is moving forward.
And as for the sales-tax referendum, I asked each Wichita City Council member to place four voting issues on the ballot, requiring a “yes” or “no” on each item. But they had to put all four items in one question. Streets, bus system and water are all very important issues. But having a slush fund for jobs is ridiculous. Wichita cannot afford that type of charity. Please vote “no.”

Celebrity parade
I hope my fellow voters in Kansas have figured out by now that Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., has no outstanding positive moment to claim and run on – thus, all the GOP big hitters he has been bringing in. Don’t be fooled again. Roberts is certainly one of the taproots of gridlock.
The very best Kansan may not be a Republican or a Democrat. That statement will cause many to say, “Oh, here is another vote for independent candidate Greg Orman.” Not so. But, as a registered Republican for 50-plus years, I will exercise my right to choose the person I think will do the best to represent me. I know how Roberts has represented me, and the records are public.
I once taught my daughter that unless something is illegal or immoral, there are times when you should compromise. Does that make me a great teacher or a poor father? Does that make me a Republican or a Democrat? Neither, in my estimation.
We are not getting good advice or results from Roberts. He is well aware of this. Thus, the parade of celebrities has begun.
Be you a hard-core Republican or hard-core Democrat, think for yourself before you vote.

Hate paying taxes
I want more of my money. Like “Becky” in Topeka, who is featured in a new campaign commercial for Gov. Sam Brownback, I hate paying taxes for things such as policemen, firemen, safe roads and bridges, useful parks, libraries, teachers, sewers, public health, national defense and all those other natty little things. Vote for Sam Brownback, the deterioration candidate.
