North High pride

On Friday, October 5, Wichita North High alumni were welcomed and cheered at the afternoon fall sports pep assembly. On Saturday, Oct. 6, Wichita North High was again open to welcome alumni. Tours of the school and celebration reunions with classmates were available, as well as student prepared refreshments and a reception for Hall of Fame inductees.

As a member of the North Class of 1968 celebrating our 50th reunion, I was impressed by the warm welcome North students extended to the alumni. Students were on hand to give tours of the building, and their obvious pride in North High made us all encouraged that the school we loved 50 years ago was still cherished by the current generation.

Thanks to the administration and staff of Wichita North for instilling in the students the importance of heritage and appreciation for those who preceded them.

A true leader

Pete Meitzner is a great thinker who “leans in” to content experts to make fact-driven decisions. Pete sought me out to serve on his District Advisory Board because he wanted someone who understood the impact that health and quality of life issues have on economic development.

Pete was a champion for the implementation of Bike Share ICT, even though it isn’t in his district, knowing the opportunity it could bring towards attracting and retaining young talent and revitalizing our city’s core. It takes a true leader to reach beyond what is best for your own area of the community and seek innovative solutions that will benefit the greater good. And that is exactly what Pete Meitzner is, a “lead by example and hard work” leader!

Pete Meitzner is the best candidate for Sedgwick County District One County Commission. Pete exemplifies honesty, visionary thinking, fairness and thoughtfulness. Pete will use those qualities to create opportunities for residents where they live, learn, earn, play and pray. With proud enthusiasm, I support Pete Meitzner for County Commission. We need Pete. Pete needs you. Vote for Pete on Nov. 6! And let’s see the same progress in Sedgwick County that he has brought to Wichita!

Fiercely independent

Independent governor candidate Greg Orman’s supporters are being threatened and bullied. Our crime? Voting our consciences.

The parties fixate on skewed polls like two misrepresenting voter demographics. Another poll primed respondents to choose Kobach or Kelly. These polls were structured to imply low support for Orman, giving the parties fodder to demand Orman suspend his campaign, depriving voters of choice. They threaten the other party will destroy Kansas, intimidating voters into choosing Kobach or Kelly. Partisans cite these skewed numbers demanding we vote their candidate or “be held accountable.”

Meanwhile, Greg Orman focuses on his plans and experience. Orman emphasizes balancing the budget in a way that keeps promises and describes how a strong economy is critical to fund state-provided services. Greg Orman provides Kansas sensible solutions to rise above this miserable partisan stagnation.

Kansans are fiercely independent people. We decide our vote – no intimidation needed. Kansas voters deserve a governor committed to us, not party bosses, who prioritizes our interests over his, a governor so dedicated to serving Kansans that he refuses money from PACs, corporations and lobbyists. If Kansans want to vote for independent Greg Orman, we will exercise our own independence on Nov. 6 and do so.
