Two Wichita legends
I was recently in Wichita for the production of my play, “Hi Hat Hattie,” about Wichita native Hattie McDaniel. What a wonderful, welcoming town, full of treasures that we so enjoyed while we were there.
One of Wichita’s treasures if Roxy’s Downtown Theater, whose staff made us feel immediately welcome and part of their family. Their beautiful production was directed by Rick Bumgardner, and the very talented Huron Breaux played the piano for the show.
A bright shining jewel of Wichita is Wichita native Karla Burns, a world-class actress. She was the first person of color to win the Olivier Award in London, was Tony nominated, and has won many awards for her prestigious talent. When you see the generous gifts of her performance, it’s easy to understand why.
It was a magical production for me – one Wichita legend playing another Wichita legend. I’m so grateful to Wichita for giving us Karla Burns, one of the best entertainers in the world, who plays Hattie McDaniel so beautifully, so perfectly, and so entertainingly.
Thank you Wichita. And thank you, Karla Burns.

Kennedy for Kansas House 87th
Please vote for Jeff Kennedy as Republican candidate in the 87th District of the Kansas House of Representatives.
Kennedy is a native Kansan and 32-year Wichita resident who graduated from the University of Kansas and Washburn Law School. He joined Martin Pringle law firm in Wichita in 1986, where he practices today.
Kennedy has always worked to make the world a better place. He has served in leadership roles on the KU Alumni Association, the Washburn Law board of governors, a committee that transitioned KU Medical School-Wichita to a four-year program, the Wichita Art Museum board of trustees, and the Wichita Bar Association board of governors.
Kennedy gets involved and is eventually asked to lead in all areas he commits to including academics, sports, law, medicine, and the arts.
Why does this happen? Kennedy is a true leader who gets positive results. He is the leader we need now for the Kansas House, and there he will do what he has always done: make this state a better place for all of us.

Kobach for governor
The Republican primary for governor boils down to a choice. We can choose Kris Kobach, the conservative choice, or we can go with Jim Barnett, the moderate choice. It’s the classic choice for Kansas Republicans, but this year it’s a very easy choice.
Kobach is not only the conservative choice, he is also the best choice for governor. Kobach is a consistent conservative who has kept his promises as secretary of state. He has cut his budget, fought to protect our elections and pushed conservative values. As governor, I know he will make Kansas the most pro-life state in the country, protect our Second Amendment rights, cut taxes and cut spending.
Barnett is the moderate choice, a point he makes clear daily. He is pushing for Medicaid expansion in our state and pushing policies that will increase taxes on hard-working Kansans. His backing from the Mainstream Coalition and the teacher’s union only solidify that he is the moderate choice.
Our choice as Kansas Republicans is clear and that is why I am supporting Kobach.
