Erickson for Kansas House 87th

As a longtime resident of the 87th District, I am pleased to endorse Renee Erickson to be our state legislator.

Erickson is a true fiscal and social conservative who will serve our community well. Her endorsements include Kansans for Life, Kansas Chamber of Commerce PAC, and the Family Policy Alliance of Kansas. She is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment.

Her family background includes ownership and management of small businesses. Erickson has years of experience as a financial advisor. She is pro-free enterprise and would work to lower taxes and regulations. She will fight to reduce unnecessary spending and stop the cycle of increasing taxes.

Erickson is uniquely qualified as a retired teacher and principal to help solve the school-funding dilemma. She is passionate about increasing student achievement while providing the best possible educational outcome for our students.

Renee and her family have deep roots in east Wichita. They are longtime Kansas residents who plan to remain in the 87th District. They are active members of their Wichita church.

Thompson for U.S. House

My sister and I drove to Wichita to hear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortiz and Bernie Sanders support James Thompson in his U.S. House 4th District primary. There were an estimated 4,000 of us.

We were the old folks, but those youngsters shook Century II. They exuded hope and determination. As we wound through the long, seemingly endless line to enter, I visited with a young couple who had come with their 3-year-old son because “there wasn’t much progressive going on in Salina.” Well, wake up Salina, we are on a roll.

Thompson is determined to turn control away from the rich and powerful, back to the overwhelming numbers of “us.” Unless you are one of the ultra-rich, he should be your choice, too.

Walker for Kansas House 97th

As usual, The Eagle did a poor job of representing the more conservative candidate in their endorsement process.

I am more than a “self-described right-wing conservative.” I stand very much for the lowering of sales tax and the eventual elimination of income tax altogether for the state. I also want the tax relief, once taken away from Kansas citizens, restored and the elimination of fraud and waste in our state finances.

I want to represent the residents of District 97 and be a voice for them. And yes, I do want our schools protected.

Mike Walker, Wichita

Svaty for governor

John F. Kennedy once said, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” After eight years of failed leadership in Topeka, we need to elect leaders with the vision and energy to realize a better future. This election isn’t about a laundry list of policies; it’s about the very direction of our state.

Joshua Svaty and Katrina Lewison embody the leadership Kansas needs. It is the only gubernatorial ticket that combines agricultural, entrepreneurial, executive and military experience with innovative ideas like an independent state auditor. They personify the future and recognize that change is the law of the land, presenting a vision for a prouder and more prosperous Kansas.

Fortunately, Svaty and Lewison are joined down the Democratic ticket by other stellar candidates like Brian McClendon, running for secretary of state; Monica Marks, running for the Kansas House; and Lacey Cruse and Renee Duxler, both running for Sedgwick County Commission.

I will proudly vote for leaders like these, because 2018 is a generational election. It’s time to stop looking only to the past and instead vote like our future depends on it —because it does.
