Letters on Legislature, Sam Williams, Jeff Longwell. letters deadline

Vote them all out in next election

Our Legislature has passed law after law with little to no regard for what they actually do to the state. Tax cuts put the state deep in the red, with multiple credit downgrades so far. After the new budget is passed, there may be another downgrade.

The Legislature has robbed much-needed infrastructure funds and ignored the state Supreme Court on funding schools. More than 330,000 businesses are getting a free ride for state services that normal taxpayers are paying for. It will come back to bite them, but they don’t seem to care.

That shot of adrenaline isn’t doing its job. Instead, Kansas has become the prime example of how not to financially run a state.

The old adage about absolute power corrupting absolutely is on full display in Topeka. Voters should wake up and vote the legislators out in the next election.

Vote for Longwell

Integrity? Check. Accessible? Check. Passionate about growing and improving Wichita? Check.

That’s Wichita mayoral candidate Jeff Longwell.

I’ve known Longwell for nine years now and I have worked with him on the District 5 Advisory Board. I first met him while he was serving on the Maize school board. I have since joined the school board and currently serve as president.

Longwell served on the school board for 12 years, which is a testament to his stability and commitment. He and his fellow board members tackled managing Maize’s growth, lowering the mill levy and increasing teachers’ pay.

Longwell wanted to reach farther than west Wichita, though. He believes in Wichitans and thinks that a city is about the people. He is constantly asking people what they want – what they envision for Wichita. He and his wife, Susie, have worked and volunteered tirelessly for causes they believe in, including the American Diabetes Association and the youth of Saint Francis Assisi.

My vote on April 7 will be for Jeff Longwell.

Williams needed

As a lifelong resident of Wichita and this area, I am excited to cast my vote for Sam Williams for Wichita mayor.

I love living here, and I know that Williams will bring experience and a new perspective that is missing at City Hall right now. We can’t keep on in the same direction with handouts for preferred businesses while neglecting the true needs of our citizens (water system, roads, etc.).

I’d invite Jeff Longwell and other current Wichita City Council members to drive down Meridian and then tell me they’ve done a phenomenal job, and that we should continue on the current path. We need a new face, a new perspective, and experience. Wichita needs Sam Williams.
