Don’t count on leaders to extinguish hate message
This past weekend, an ugly truth was presented to all of us. The truth that hatred is still alive in our society, ready at any time to rear its ugly head. That white nationalists, neo-Nazis, and the KKK are active and growing like a plague upon us.
As citizens, we have a responsibility to respond to this message of hate with a message of intolerance for the evil that spews out of the mouths of these hate groups. When the message from our highest elected officials is a luke-warm response at best, we must take on the mantle of responsibility to assure that the message of hate is forever extinguished.

Respect all others
There are conservatives such as President Trump and a core group of supporters who profess to be individualists and yet, by their support of Nazis, white supremacists, anti-semites and other hate groups through their continued silence, they express contempt for the concept of individualism.
Immigrants and minorities are people, too. Any person with an individualistic outlook honors this.

Tanner’s a treat
Hooray for Eagle journalist Beccy Tanner. I enjoy her amazing and wonderful stories of places and people in The Eagle. Recently she shared life in Cuba, Kan., and the love story of the Friesens.
Her day trips are fabulous and filled with history, Tanner’s own stories, and the enjoyment of meeting other Kansans. It is a pleasure to read and learn more of the history of Kansas.
