Letters on left’s antics, Electoral College, Pitts column

Center tired of the left’s antics

A recent commentary outlining how many of those who supported Donald Trump were not on board with the total package was a voice of reason in the editorial section (“Many reasons why voters chose Trump,” Nov. 13 Opinion).

Since Trump’s victory, his supporters have been labeled racist, misogynistic and uneducated. It seems that the loudest liberal voices in the room have failed to realize that when stereotyping everyone who voted against Hillary Clinton, they have practiced the same intellectual laziness of the people they despise.

I’m confident that Trump did benefit in part by the support of bad people. It seems even more likely that the narrow mindedness of the few on the far left helped him win just as much, as those in the center are tired of their antics.

New scoring rule

I think when the Super Bowl is played in February, we should use similar convoluted rules to decide the winner as we use to decide our presidential election victor.

Team A scores 21 points, and Team B scores 17. Team B wins because Team A only garnered four points more, instead of a required arbitrarily decided spread of at least 10 points.

Seems as fair as allowing the Electoral College system to override the actual vote of the people for president.

The most disturbing thing is that more people would likely be upset by the Super Bowl being decided in such a fashion as care about handing the presidency to the runner-up.

Hateful attitude

I write this with tears in my eyes and pity for the hatred that columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. penned in his commentary “Now is the time to take our country back” (Nov. 21 Opinion). “I have no interest in seeing this country heal,” Pitts wrote. “And I refuse to come together.”

When most of this country is working hard to overcome bigotry and violence, I found his words to further the bigotry and misogynist attitude that he was, I think, trying to condemn.

This isn’t a racial issue; it is an issue of the heart. I’m disappointed that Pitts’ influence and attitude seem to represent his race, but my friends of many colors do not share his attitude and ideals.

The attitude of Pitts’ remarks seems to incite the very hatred and rage that he discredits our president-elect and his supporters of sharing.

Those of us who did not support President Obama – not because of his color but because of his politics – did not advocate the activism that is indicated in this column.

Pitts’ last sentence – “Let’s take our country back” – said it all. We did.

Pitts’ tantrum

It sounds as if columnist Leonardo Pitts didn’t get his Twinkies for breakfast (“Now is the time to take our country back,” Nov. 21 Opinion). Donald Trump may not be a great person, but nether was Hillary Clinton.

Pitts basically told people it’s OK to keep acting like a bunch of babies and to heck with trying to bring the country back together. It’s one thing to write about your disappointment and another to stir up more problems. I am shocked The Eagle published this commentary.

I am really disappointed in Pitts. I used to enjoy reading his commentaries, but now I realize he’s just another kid who likes to throw tantrums.
