Don’t miss all the fun this weekend and next
Stay home and chill some other time. This weekend and next in south-central Kansas are going to be too full of music, art and fun to miss.
Autumn and Art is back at Bradley Fair Friday through Sunday, showcasing fine art as well as performers. The fried-food consumption and pig racing continue through Sunday at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, where Gabriel Iglesias does his stand-up Friday and Little Big Town performs Saturday. The bluegrass mecca that is the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield also lasts through Sunday.
The Wichita Symphony Orchestra celebrates Disney tunes Saturday at Century II, where Wichita Grand Opera will perform Verdi’s “Don Carlo” with famed bass Samuel Ramey on Sept. 25 and 27. Wichita Shakespeare Company’s “Hamlet” tours area parks through Sunday. The Orpheum Theatre’s calendar is busy, too, with acts including Ballet Folklorico de Mexico on Friday and the Robert Cray Band on Thursday.
On Sept. 26, somebody could start the day at the Komen Wichita Race for the Cure, check out the Wichita Wagonmasters Downtown Chili Cookoff, celebrate the opening of the Wichita Art Museum’s new art garden and visit the Great Plains Renaissance Festival at Sedgwick County Park (it wraps up Sept. 27). The tradition of the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Pageant continues Sept. 25-27. The calendars in The Eagle’s GO! section and at Kansas.com detail more theater performances, concerts and fall festivals.
The entertaining options are abundant right now. Ignore them at your own risk of boredom.
