A tornado watch has been issued until late Tuesday night for 40 counties in central Kansas, including portions of the Wichita metropolitan area.
The watch area stretches from west of Dodge City and just east of Hill City to just east of Manhattan and Salina. Wichita is not included in the watch, but Harvey and Reno counties are.
The watch is in place until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
"A few tornadoes likely with a couple intense tornadoes possible," a statement issued by the Storm Prediction Center said.
A tornado warning has already been issued for portions of Pawnee and Rush counties in central Kansas for radar-indicated rotation shortly before 4:30 p.m.
