Wichita’s emergency winter shelter ‘urgently requesting community support’ of food items
HumanKind Ministries is “urgently requesting community support” of donated food items for its emergency winter shelter, which opened Friday for the first time this season.
The nonprofit opens the shelter on cold nights. The organization expects to serve 150 or more people each night this weekend when the wind-chill factor will be in the low 20s.
HumanKind is asking for continental breakfast items, lunch meat, bread, peanut butter, jelly and fruit.
“HumanKind requests the assistance of community members to ensure that everyone who comes to our shelter has access to breakfast, lunch and dinner,” HumanKind President and CEO Dawn Shepler said in a news release. “By donating essential food items, you can help provide nourishment to those in our community who need it most.”
Donations can be brought to the south entrance of the shelter, 1025 N. Main, Friday night and throughout the weekend, the release says. To donate prepared meals, sign up at HumanKindWichita.org/Volunteer.
