McPherson man killed, two children hurt during crash in winter storm
A 26-year-old McPherson man was killed and two children injured during a snowy crash around 7:30 on Tuesday morning in McPherson County, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.
According to the patrol, 26-year-old Alberto Garcia was driving north on 14th Avenue in a 2008 Lexus when he lost control of the car, swerved into the southbound lane and was hit in the passenger side by a Ford F450. Garcia was killed in the crash and two boys, ages 4 and 6, in the Lexus were injured. The boys were taken to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries.
The truck was driven by a 22-year-old Hesston man. One of his passengers was taken to Salina Regional Hospital with possible injuries.
The Highway Patrol said Troop C, which covers 18 counties, including McPherson County, responded to 82 calls from 4 a.m. to noon. The calls included 42 slide-offs and the fatality.
