Rain, storms possible Saturday evening, forecasters say
The Fourth of July began with rain showers in some parts of Wichita.
Vanessa Pearce, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said there were only trace amounts of rainfall recorded in some areas of the city, including at Jabara Airport, Saturday morning, though chances of raid were expected to pop back up later in the day.
Most of the weather activity stayed to the north of Wichita as some storms passed through the area. In Cottonwood Falls, northeast of Wichita, Pearce said about 1.5 inches of rain fell.
In Hutchinson, Pearce said close to a half-inch of rain fell early Saturday.
In Wichita, she said chances for rain and possible storms could creep back into the area after 7 p.m.
“I would just say that if people are going out to watch fireworks, or going out to shoot them off, just make sure to check the forecast before they head out,” Pearce said.
The high temperature for Wichita on Saturday is expected to approach 96, according to the weather service.
