On Wednesday, Wichita is primed to have its first day of triple-digit temperatures this year, according to the National Weather Service.

Scott Smith, a meteorologist with the service’s Wichita office, said he expects Wichita to reach a high of 101 degrees Wednesday, which would mark the first 100-degree temp since Aug. 8, 2025.

“The angle of the sun and the winds from the south are going to really warm us up,” Smith said. “It’s also going to be a really windy day on Wednesday.”

Smith said he expects wind gusts of as much as 35 mph in the Wichita area Wednesday. The hotter temps, however, are expected to be short-lived.

A cold front is expected to arrive overnight into Thursday, Smith said, which will push the expected high temperature for Thursday down into the low 80s.

“It’s even possible that we could see highs in the high 70s on Thursday,” Smith said.

The high for Tuesday was expected to be near the 90-degree mark, Smith said.
