High winds, rain, large hail possible for south-central Kansas. What’s the timing?
The Wichita area could see winds as strong as 60 mph or greater Saturday as a weather front moves through the area, according to the National Weather Service.
Jerod Kaufman, a meteorologist with the service in its Wichita office, said storms could pop up in the area by around 7 p.m. on Saturday.
“This front is going to come down from the north,” Kaufman said. “The best storm chances for Wichita will probably be sometime after 7 p.m. The primary threats are strong winds, 60-80 mph, and some places could see some large hail.”
The heaviest rain from the front, Kaufman said, will likely stay to the east of Wichita. Some parts of southeast Kansas could see as much as three inches of rain.
Flooding is possible.
There’s also a risk for tornadoes related to the front, according to the Weather Service.
