See the updated forecast for Wednesday here: Large hail, possible tornados in forecast. Here’s when and where

A bout of thunderstorms Tuesday night could bring dime size hail, 60 mph winds and heavy rains to Kansas ahead of almost a week of intermittent rain, data from the National Weather Service indicated.

The Wichita station’s hazardous weather outlook Tuesday afternoon identified portions of central, south central and southeast Kansas where residents should expect gusty winds, high grassland fire danger and isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Affected counties include Barton, Kingman, Cowley, Reno, Harvey, Butler, Sedgwick and Sumner, among others.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible along and southeast of I-35 Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. The strongest activity of the week — hail, intense winds and heavy rains — may manifest during this period.

Going into Wednesday night, scattered showers and strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, with the weather service preemptively warning of heavy rainfall and localized flooding risks. The temperature is expected to peak at 76 degrees Wednesday with an anticipated low of 54 that evening.

To close out the week, high grassland fire danger may return over Friday and Saturday with the potential that rainfall from earlier in the week will reduce the overall risk. Temperatures Friday are expected to hit a high near 79 degrees with breezy conditions and a low of 39 with a chance of rain.

The weather station’s hazardous weather outlook will remain in effect until Monday, April 6. Additional information can be found on the National Weather Service website at https://www.weather.gov/ict/
