How cold will it be this weekend? Here’s the forecast

National Weather Service

Despite above-average temperatures forecast through Friday, the National Weather Service projects Wichita could experience its first winter freeze this weekend, with temperatures dipping as low as 21 degrees by Sunday night.

The drop in temperature comes as a cold front races through mid-America, bringing the coldest air of the season so far to the Midwest, Northeast and Deep South.

Weekend temperatures for the Wichita-metro area will start sunny with a high near 61 degrees on Saturday, Nov. 8. Wind gusts throughout the day could be as high as 37 miles per hour.

Going into Saturday night, temperatures will begin to drop with a low around 29 degrees. Wind speeds will decrease, with gusts as high as 26 miles per hour. Conditions are otherwise forecast to be clear.

On Sunday, Nov. 9, temperatures will climb back into the early 40s. But that evening, they’ll dip again, with a forecast low of 23 degrees during the night.

The weekend cool down will be short-lived, though, meteorologists say. Weather models suggest a return to above-average temperatures on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with highs of 65 and lows of 42 for the rest of the week.

Meteorologists don’t expect any rain, sleet or snow over the next 10 days.

Additional weather information and updates — as well as weather watches and warnings, when they are issued — can be found on the National Weather Service website.
