Central Kansas, including Wichita, could get more rain — and see possible flooding — in a storm expected to hit Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

There is also potential for nickel-sized hail and wind gusts between 55-65 mph.

The chance of stormy weather ramps up throughout the day, starting around 3 p.m. and going until around midnight before dropping off.

The concern for flooding comes as the ground is already saturated.

“Flash Flooding is likely, especially for locations that experienced heavy rainfall overnight,” the NWS in Wichita said Friday morning.

Wichita is in an area under a flood watch for Friday’s storm.

There was concern about flooding in the storm from Thursday and into Friday morning. Scott Smith, with the NWS in Wichita, said the only report of flooding the office received was in Rice County, where some roads were closed because of high water.

Wichita saw 0.64 inches of rain from the storm, but areas around Wichita saw much more. A weather station in Butler County saw just over four inches of rain. A station 10 miles southwest of Hutchinson reported about 2.34 inches.
