The heat felt on Friday is only expected to get hotter, as Wichita could see its hottest day so far of the year during the next few days.

So far this year, the hottest temperature in Wichita was 102 degrees on June 28.

Between Saturday and Tuesday, the highs in the region are forecast to be between 97 to 107 degrees.

James Cuellar, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Wichita, says the Monday could be the day that surpasses 102 degrees. On Friday afternoon, he said the NWS had a forecast high for Wichita of 103 on Monday.

However, the heat could break significantly later next week, even reaching highs in the 80s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

“Things can change,” he said about if the temperatures would drop that much. “That is dependent on whether or not we get rain in that period.”
