Wichita forecast to see triple-digit weather Wednesday. Here’s what time and how hot
Wichita is in for high heat Wednesday afternoon as temperatures are forecast to rise to 100.
The National Weather Service in Wichita will issue a heat advisory that will go into effect from noon to 9 p.m. The advisory covers Wichita and portions of central, south central and southeast Kansas,
Temperatures throughout the day will hover in the upper 90s with the best chance of hitting the century mark between 4 and 6 p.m., NWS meteorologist Bryan Baerg said.
Baerg added that heat index values will range from 105 to 110 during that time frame. Heat index values “are taking into account how the combination of the heat and humidity makes the body feel like,” Baerg said over the phone.
“When we’re really hot and humid, the body isn’t able to evaporate sweat to stay cool because of how hot it is outside,” Baerg added. “So heat indices is a measurement of what it feels like outside to the body.”
A National Weather Service heat index chart shows the 105 to 110 range for Wichita in the “danger” section. This poses the risk of possible heat stroke, cramps and heat exhaustion to occur.
“While it’s not abnormal in the summer time to have heat indices like that, we just encourage people to be extra cautious on days like tomorrow,” Baerg said.
Thursday will be hot as well, but not as scorching.
Thursday’s high is forecast at 94 with heat index values between 100 and 104, according to a NWS hazardous weather outlook.
