Flooding, stalled cars in Wichita after heavy rainfall on Tuesday
Heavy rainfall in Wichita on Tuesday night caused some areas of the city to flood.
A bit more rain is forecast to fall on Wednesday. But not much. National Weather Service meteorologist Robb Lawson says about a half inch to an inch of rain is forecast.
There is no active flooding in Sedgwick County, according to a WaterWatch map. The nearest active flooding in the area is the Whitewater River in Augusta is in Butler County.
A graph shows the Whitewater River flooding level is “minor” at a elevation of 22.13 feet.
Wichita saw about 4.25 inches of rain Tuesday night. The rain caused a high number of 911 calls for reports of flooded cars.
Sedgwick County emergency communications says they received about 96 calls related to flooding on Tuesday night: 59 were for a report of a person in a vehicle, and 37 were for a report of water on a roadway.
Linda Ester, a 911 dispatch supervisor, said some of the calls may been duplicates. It is unclear how many actual vehicles may have been stuck in water.
Wichita, along with portions of southeast, south-central and central Kansas, will remain under a flood watch until 1 a.m. Thursday.
