Snow moving in on Wichita soon, but will not stay for long, meteorologist says
Snow is forecast to return to Wichita starting late Thursday morning, but it won’t last too long, a meteorologist says.
Chris Jakub, a meteorologist with the Wichita office of the National Weather Service, says light snow will start falling in Wichita around 10 a.m. on Thursday. We’ll then see “periods of off and on snow that will continue until late Thursday night,” he said.
Total snowfall for Wichita is forecast to be around 1 to 2 inches. It should start to taper off around 10 p.m., according to Jakub.
Heavy snow is expected set to fall farther north, near I-70; that area could see 4 to 7 inches. The rest of central Kansas is forecast to receive 3 to 5 inches, Jakub said.
Wind chills will be around 14 on Thursday morning and drop slightly to 8 from Thursday night through Friday morning, Jakub added.
“We’re not going to see those really bitter cold wind chills like we saw in events last month,” Jakub said.
Drivers are still advised to drive with caution. Jakub says it takes just a little bit of snow on the roads to make them a “little slick and treacherous for driving.”
Temperatures are expected to be back in the mid-60s by Sunday.
