Tornado watch issued for four counties in southeast Kansas. Softball-sized hail possible
A tornado watch has been issued for four counties in southeast Kansas as meteorologists predict that hail stones the size of softballs may fall with severe storms.
The National Weather Service office in Wichita released a map showing Chautauqua, Montgomery, Labette and Cherokee counties are included in a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Monday. Also included in the tornado watch are northeastern Oklahoma, southwestern Missouri and northwestern Arkansas.
In addition to it being likely that a few tornadoes will touch down in those areas, NWS forecasters predict softball-sized hail and scattered wind gusts of up to 70 mph.
In Kansas specifically, the weather service said on Twitter that damaging winds of 60-75 mph, hail up to the size of tennis balls and an isolated strong tornado are possible.
