Hail stones the size of golf balls may fall with storms along, east of Kansas Turnpike
Weather forecasters are predicting a chance for severe storms in the Wichita area on Tuesday, but the greatest threat will be to areas south and east of I-35.
The National Weather Service office in Wichita said in a tweet that storms are expected to develop along a cold front Tuesday afternoon. Severe storms are most likely to develop along the Kansas Turnpike and then move east. The storms may bring heavy rain, damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, lightning and hail stones up to the size of golf balls.
Severe storms are possible in the Wichita metro area, but less likely.
The NWS Wichita forecast for the city predicts a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. The high temperature will be around 80 degrees with winds of 7-13 mph.
