Wichita has chance for rain every day through Thursday amid 4th-wettest start to a year

Meteorologists predict a week of rainy weather as Wichita Public Schools students are on spring break and coronavirus concerns keep many people inside.

Every day Sunday through Thursday has a chance for rain in Wichita, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday night has a 70% chance for showers, followed by a 30% chance for both daytime Monday and Monday night, the NWS Wichita forecast predicts. Daytime Tuesday also has a 30% chance for rain showers, but it increases to 100% for Tuesday night. A nighttime thunderstorm is possible.

Wednesday has a 60% chance for showers during the day, and a thunderstorm is possible. The chance of rain increases to 70% Wednesday night. It is followed by a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms for daytime Thursday.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday of next week are expected to stay dry, before a 20% chance of rain Sunday night.

This weather service forecast was current as of Sunday afternoon.

Meteorologists at NWS Wichita said in a tweet on Saturday that 5.2 inches of rain had fallen in the city so far in 2020, marking the fourth-wettest start to a year.

“Flooding may become more of a concern with additional rounds of rain this week,” forecasters wrote in the tweet.

The rain storms come as kids are home from school and public health experts have advised people to practice social distancing amid COVID-19 concerns.
