Wildfire still burning in Harvey and Reno counties

The wildfire in Harvey and Reno counties continued Friday morning.

Firefighters fought the fire through the night and responded to a flareup near NW 60th and Burmac, according to Melissa Flavin, spokeswoman for Harvey County.

Flavin said crews were reduced to 12 units as of Friday morning. That’s down from 24 units Thursday afternoon.

She said the units Friday were focusing on the northeast and northwest areas of the fire.

Flavin said in a written statement that around 14,000 acres had burned in Reno and Harvey counties.

Residents of about a dozen homes evacuated voluntarily Wednesday. A temporary shelter at Burrton High School was opened but has since been closed. Officials previously said the shelter would reopen if needed.
