Several people from Wichita area hurt in I-70 crash

Six people from the Wichita metropolitan area — including a 14-month-old boy — were hurt when the van they were in slid off an icy I-70 near the Colorado border Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday about nine miles west of Goodland, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The van, driven by a 55-year-old man from Rose Hill, was traveling west on I-70 when it slid off the interstate and rolled onto its roof in the median.

All six people in the van were taken to Goodland Regional Medical Center. William McBride, 55, of Rose Hill was the driver, according to the highway patrol’s accident report.

Passengers included Dorotha McBride, 44, of Rose Hill and Allyson Rodriguez, 26. Three children — two 16-year-olds and the toddler — were also in the van. Information on their conditions was not made available by hospital staff Wednesday afternoon.

Icy conditions made travel on I-70 slippery in northwest Kansas on Wednesday morning, according to the highway patrol. Kansas Department of Transportation trucks were sent out to treat the slick patches on the interstate.
