Man dies after slamming on motorcycle brakes to avoid cat

A Fredonia man was killed in an accident involving a cat in southeast Kansas on Tuesday night.

Brian Taylor, 37, was riding his motorcycle northeast of Fredonia shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday when he locked up the brakes of the 2003 Suzuki to avoid hitting a cat that had wandered onto the road, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle laid over on its side and Taylor was ejected. He was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash happened on Jade Road 3 miles north of Fredonia and a half-mile east, according to the highway patrol report.
