An Allen County 2-year-old died after being back over by a truck in what the county sheriff’s office is describing as a tragic farm-related accident.

It happened on a family farm just a few miles northwest of Elsmore on Monday evening, a press release from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office said.

The child’s mother called 911 after her daughter was struck by a truck as it backed up. She and her husband were already on the way to the hospital, and were met by an Allen County ambulance three miles east of Humboldt.

The toddler was taken to Allen County Regional Hospital before being transferred via air ambulance to a Children’s Mercy hospital where she died.

The incident is under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, but investigators do not suspect foul play, a press release from the agency said.
