One person is dead after the collapse of grain bin in Newton, Kansas.

A man died after being trapped inside a grain bin on Saturday near Newton, Harvey County spokesperson Kyle McCaskey said.

“Three men were working to level and empty soybeans inside a large grain bin. The contents suddenly shifted, trapping one of the men,” McCaskey said in a news release. “The trapped man was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men escaped without injury.”

First responders were called just before 2:30 p.m. to the 2100 block of South Spencer, which is just southeast of Newton.

“One subject has a lot of weight on top of him,” an official could be heard saying over Harvey County Emergency Communications scanner traffic.
