‘100% total loss’: Kansas family seeks help after fire destroyed homes

GoFundMe

By sunrise Thursday, a fast‑moving wildfire had scorched more than 283,000 acres across southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle.

It also had consumed two buildings that were home for the Thorp family.

The fires, which started Tuesday near Beaver, Oklahoma, spread through the week into Clark, Comanche, Meade and Seward counties in Kansas. They continue to burn in both states.

By Tuesday, flames had reached the Seward County home of Donna Parmenter Thorp and her husband, Randall, as well as Randall’s mother’s home, a GoFundMe page for the family described.

“It was a 100% total loss,” the GoFundMe read. “Her (Donna), Randall, and her husband’s mother were forced to evacuate as their home and her husband’s parent’s home were completely destroyed.”

The family is now working with insurance companies and other agencies to begin rebuilding their lives, the fundraiser read. They are also accepting donations.

“We can’t bring back their belongings but we can ease the pain by donating some funds to assist them in this most difficult time. We would like to show our love and support in helping them begin to rebuild their lives.”

As of Thursday evening, the fundraiser had collected almost $10,000 of its $20,000 goal. The Thorp family GoFundMe can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/show-love-to-the-thorps-as-they-rebuild-their-home.
